The zoo is operated by Anhui colorful Wildlife Park Co., Ltd., and the Siberian tiger on display is leased from Fuyang take-off domestication performance Co., Ltd.
According to the Yingdong District Forestry Bureau, 25 Siberian tigers were leased to the zoo in April 2019 for an annual rent of 1.6 million yuan. However, four tigers died that year and two more the following year. Between 2021 and March 2023, four more adult Siberian tigers died, when the annual rent has risen to 3 million yuan. Although 11 cubs were bred from the leased Siberian tigers during this period, only one survived.
So far, there are 16 remaining Siberian tigers in Fuyang Wildlife Park. Yingdong District Forestry Bureau has issued five rectification notices to the zoo since 2019, pointing out the problems of culture conditions, sites and conservation level, especially the problem that the cage is too small.
At present, the Fuyang municipal party committee and municipal government have set up an investigation team to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the breeding environment of the zoo and the cause of death of the Siberian tiger, and the relevant findings will be announced in the near future. The incident not only aroused people's attention to the management of the zoo, but also questioned the animal welfare and protection measures of the zoo. The public expects the findings to reveal the root causes of the problem and take effective measures to prevent similar incidents from happening again.
