Meta (METAGritweb3Us) said on Tuesday that it would stop its workplace application, Workplace, as the company shifted its focus to building artificial intelligence and metacosmos.
The company said Workplace would be retired to customers from June 2026, but Meta would continue to use it as its internal message board, adding that users could continue to access the product until August 2025.
A spokesman for Meta saidGritweb3"We will stop Workplace and focus on building artificial intelligence and metacosmos technologies that we believe will fundamentally reshape the way we work. Over the next two years, we will provide our Workplace customers with the option to transition to Workvivo products from Zoom (ZM.US), which is Meta's only preferred migration partner. "
It is understood that Workplace, an enterprise communications application, was first launched to enterprises in 2016. Its new features include multi-company groups and shared space, allowing employees from different organizations to work together.
Meta said Workplace customers' billing and payment arrangements would remain unchanged until August this year.
Workplace currently offers a core package of $4 per user per month, which can be upgraded through add-ons, starting at $2 per user per month. Unless the organization has a fixed plan, its monthly bill is based on the number of chargeable users.
The move comes as the social media giant has been investing heavily in artificial intelligence products and metauniverse, raising concerns that the company's soaring costs could affect growth.
